Classic S'mores Ingredients

  • Graham crackers
  • Large marshmallows
  • Milk chocolate bars (Hershey's)
  • Roasting sticks or skewers (for campfire)

Instructions

Campfire Method:

  1. Build a fire: Create a campfire and let it burn down to glowing embers for best roasting.
  2. Roast marshmallow: Place marshmallow on stick and hold over embers (not flames) turning slowly until golden brown and gooey.
  3. Assemble: Place chocolate on one graham cracker, top with hot marshmallow, and sandwich with another graham cracker.
  4. Press and enjoy: Press gently to melt chocolate and enjoy immediately!

Indoor Oven Method:

  1. Preheat oven to broil.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Place graham cracker halves on sheet, top each with chocolate and a marshmallow.
  4. Broil for 1-2 minutes until marshmallows are golden (watch carefully!).
  5. Top with another graham cracker and press gently.

Microwave Method (Quick!):

  1. Place graham cracker on microwave-safe plate.
  2. Top with chocolate and marshmallow.
  3. Microwave for 10-15 seconds until marshmallow puffs up.
  4. Top with another graham cracker and press.

Creative S'mores Variations

Cookie Variations:

  • Chocolate Chip: Use chocolate chip cookies instead of graham crackers
  • Oreo S'mores: Use Oreos for the "cracker"
  • Fudge Stripe: Use Keebler Fudge Stripe cookies
  • Peanut Butter: Use Nutter Butter cookies

Chocolate Variations:

  • Peanut Butter Cup: Use Reese's cups instead of plain chocolate
  • Dark Chocolate: Try dark chocolate bars
  • Cookies & Cream: Use Cookies & Cream Hershey bars
  • Caramel: Add caramel squares with the chocolate
  • Nutella: Spread Nutella on the graham cracker

Special Additions:

  • Elvis S'more: Add banana slices and peanut butter
  • Strawberry: Add fresh strawberry slices
  • Mint: Use Andes mints or mint chocolate
  • Bacon: Add a strip of cooked bacon
  • Peanut Butter: Spread peanut butter on graham crackers

S'mores Bar Setup

Create a s'mores bar station with options:

  • Multiple types of graham crackers (regular, chocolate, cinnamon)
  • Various chocolate options
  • Regular and flavored marshmallows (strawberry, vanilla, jumbo)
  • Extra toppings in bowls (caramel sauce, Nutella, peanut butter)
  • Fresh fruit slices
  • Cookie options

Tips for Perfect S'mores

  • Golden, not burnt: Roast marshmallows slowly for even cooking
  • Patience: Let the marshmallow heat the chocolate to melty perfection
  • The twist technique: If marshmallow catches fire, blow it out and remove the burnt layer
  • Double up: Use two marshmallows for extra gooeyness
  • Pre-break graham crackers: Break them before assembling so they don't crumble when pressing

Activity Ideas

  • Host a s'mores creation contest with unusual flavor combinations
